Also known as PRP, this is a treatment which has been used for years in the medical sporting sector but the regenerative properties have been assessed to have an excellent impact on hair growth (Zhou et al,. 2021; Yuan et al,. 2024).
The process involves your blood being taken, spun to separate the platelets/fibrin (growth factors) and these are then re-injected back into where you want the growth factors (which in this case would be your scalp).
Platelet rich fibrin is a similar treatment where the blood is spun but on a lower setting with not clot reducing agents in the blood bottle.
Studies also find a significant increase in hair growth when used in combination with LLLT (Gentile et al., 2020).
PRP must be adhered to regularly with 1 treatment a month for 3+ treatments.
Contraindications include pregnancy and breast feeding, blood disorders eg anemia, uncontrolled high blood pressure and any skin issues on the area eg psoriasis.
NSAID medication and current infections are a major contraindication as render the treatment superfluous.
