Vitamins and Minerals

In a world where there are so many different options and products to support hair loss, LAABS offers a range of professional interventions to suit your hair growth needs. However, it is important to consider that hair loss may also correlate to vitamin or mineral deficiencies.

  • Vitamin D plays a pivotal part in creating new hair follicles (Amore et al., 2020; Demay et al., 2007) and it is found to be particularly crucial for people suffering from alopecia areata (Mahmud Mahamid et al., 2014). Both Zinc (Park et al., 2009) and iron (Zhang et al., 2023) are also found to correlate to alopecia where deficiencies are observed (particularly in women) (Rushton, 2002).
  • Biotin (B7), a vitamin which is imperative for keratin production, is studied to correlate to hair loss where there is a deficiency (Patel, Swink, Castelo-soccio, 2017) and B12 is also found to impact hair growth, particularly in older female groups (Farah et al., 2021)
  • Sudden weight-loss also correlates to hair loss, however an increase in protein was found to negate this when researched by Blackburn et al.,(1976).
  • On the flipside, an increase in vitamin A (which can be from taking some medications as well as overdosing the vitamin itself) can actually lead to alopecia due to vitamin A toxicity (Yamamoto et al.,2003).
  • LAABS Clinic treatments for vitamin wellness include vitamin D (£35) as well as B vitamins (£25).Contact LAABS for  more information.
